Not so Happy Halloween

This year jared and i did not have the greatest first for Halloween.. I was unfortunately given the privelege to feel what all my patients do at the hospital and experience the swine flu also known as H1N1.. I was quarantined to my house starting wednesday and was told i would be free monday.. I felt so bad, as this is my husbands FAVORITE holiday. He had lights (orange and purple) on our balcony with a skeleton we named Achmed since September. I am so grateful for my husband. He was such a trooper. He did not once complain, i can not claim no complaining on my part. Jared did all he could to help me. I have wonderful friends who made dinner and brought over treats. I do not wish H1N1 on my worst enemy. There were times i was too tired to hold up the phone to talk to my mom or husband when they were calling to check in. The couch was my best friend and i am not sure how i made it to my bed each night. What was more odd, was i had the vaccine, i waited in line 3 weeks ago and got the shot.. So did the shot work? I am not sure, maybe i would have been worse if I had not got the shot..

My sister-in-law Lindsi and mom were great and gave me lots of stories about the kids Halloween night. Pics i am told are coming soon. Ihope everyone had a great halloween and had a safe night!! I am excited for thanksgiving and even more so Christmas for that is my FAVORITE holiday.. The feeling in the world seems to change and i am so excited to share many more firsts with my husband.. Thanks to all who checked to see if i was alive and how things were going. I appreciate all the love!!

the love's of my life

I have been wondering what i am going to do for Christmas. Being a newlywed and
both in school = Not much money, so i decided to go to a site a great friend of mine showed me.. My sister and i made my wedding announcements on this website and i am addicted to it..
http://www.scrapblog.com is my saving grace.

I used the amazing pictures Jill took of my family, went to scrapblog and created a photo collage.. I decided after i made them, i wanted to send them to get printed off and give them for Christmas.. Since my nieces and nephews are never on here i knew it was ok to post this. My mom and sisters have been great at giving me feedback. I have enjoyed making these and can't wait to give them to everyone!!

If you have not figured it out yet, i am obsessed with my nieces and nephews.. till i have little ones of my own, i LOVE spoiling these kids to pieces!

halloween fun

Jared and i went out with our friends Chris and Jessica Thursday to Thanksgiving Point. We went to the maze (not the haunted one, i am not a fan of being scared).. We got lost in the maze much sooner than we thought. Jared was more than excited to be lost in a dark field of corn husks, I was not so thrilled.. Jessica and Chris were troopers in getting lost and wandering around the dark field.. I think i am just a big chicken!! Needless to say, we made it out alive and we figured it only took us about an hour to get lost and found again.. After the maze we wandered around and found that even though things were "included" with the tickets we got, everything else still cost more money.. Jared and Chris ate fried PB&J and seemed to love every bit of it... We found some amazing pumpkins and this awesome over sized rocking chair.. It was a great night.. Jessica has become such a great friend and i love going out with these two!! It is nice to have another couple to hang out with.... We will see where we end up going out next month!! till then, i am grateful for great friends and an amazing husband!!

did i mention i LOVED this rocing chair?

Jack sparrow still is cute when he is carved into a pumpkin!!

I loved that there was a pumpkin carved of Gordon B Hinckley.. it was so great!!

i can't miss a chance where to take a pic of disney princesses carved into pumpkins!!

time to bake!!

My little brother is here for conference.. What this means, lots of food to cook for him and to PROVE i can cook.. this is what i think impressed him the most.. i made rolls from scratch.. i know this sounds like an easy take for most, but believe me, when i was growing up i had a hard time cooking.. I am proud to say my skills have improved lots!! jared could not figure out why i was making a roast, potatoes, corn and homemade rolls for dinner since it was just the three of us.. Needless to say, my goal was achieved!! i impressed my little bro and made a scrumptious dinner!! the weather was nice and i did not die with the oven on!! more to come this winter!!

whats your talent?

So i must admit i have a talented husband.. He gets these ideas in his head and cant focus on anything else till he puts them all down on paper.. What am i talking about you ask? well my husband has this gift of writing poems.. he writes in the "sonet" form.. he will tell me what the form is and where it stems from, but i have a small attention span and usually am captured by his poetry.. Jared has recently shared a poem with me about the seasons and i must admit it is one of my favorite ones (except all my love poems he gives me).. He has a way of capturing the world around us and making me think in different perspectives.. I am so grateful for all the talents in this world. i have many friends who are talented in so many areas, Jill in photography, my sister in anything that is crafty, my mom with her sewing and on and on i could go.. I just want to say thank you to all those that share their talents with me.. what is my talent? well beside nursing i am still working on it.. I love creative writing and have a little knack for pictures.. But till i am done with school we will see what i have yet to create.. Anyway, Jared has a blog with all his poetry on it.. there is a link on our page and he would love anyone to read and leave comments of what you think.. I want to share the poem about the seasons.. the imagination is a terrible thing to waste so don't be afraid to get lost in picturing what the words tell you..
The Spring Queen
The sun breaks through deep depressing grey clouds
It's rays summon forth spring and her good queen
She's there to bring life, this I have no doubt
The sound of her voice is soft and healing
Dancing and twirling her song singing
Her emerald dress beckoning the dead
It's time again to sing with the living
swaying to and fro, come with me and wed
By her fingers touch the flowers awake
The wind from her dress brings new life to trees
All creatures small and tall start to mate
The earth alive and free from the kings freeze
Come one and all my son you must now meet
come one come all and bow at his great feet
The Summer Prince
The queen has left,it's her sons time to rule
He descends from the sky, scorching hot robe
With a calm voice he speaks, "Please be my tool."
Together I know we can lift this load
Trees I need you to be for man cold shade
Woodlands I need you to gather the nuts
Bees honey from you I need, no delay
Man has power to grow all he touches
So go forth and do all things I so ask
For when the time comes you might be ready
When the princes of fall comes to collect
Hurry before the leaves turn confetti
Come one and all my sister you will meet
Come one come all and bow before her feet
The Fall Princess
The prince has left, it;s his sisters time now
She falls gently to the ground, from life's tree
dressed like a wilting leaf she smiles, then bows
The time has come, I need from you my fee
Woodlands your nuts will you please bring forward
Bees I smell goodness in your sweet honey
Trees you have done well for your Lord
Man bring all that you have grown, before me
I shall now mix all that has been given
Together we'll have a wonderful feast
Then of your fruits you will have so eaten
After, the king will come and you will sleep
Come on and all my father you will meet
Come one come all and bow at his grand feet
The Winter King
With the princess gone it's her fathers time
He blows in fast in his pearly robe
Behold you have seen my great family line
The time is now for you to feel my blow
With his mouth gaping wide he took his breath
Then released, chilling all to the bone
Immediately they were all put to rest
With heaven the color and simple tone
I shall now show you visions and all things
Though asleep, you will see it in your head
You have worked hard and earned this joy to be
Now it is time, so sleep well in your beds
Soon you will awake and meet my kind wife
You will forget all, anew begin life

FIve minutes of fame? i will settle for 5 seconds!

The joys of being in nursing school, whenever there is a disaster drill NURSING STUDENTS are there to be the actors and make all the drama come to real life, as much as we can.. I have been disaster drills in the past and always on the side of staff, i was the EMT who helped everyone. I was never the patient and this last week has been an eye opener for me.. As we arrived to St Marks hospital i was surprised at how i longed to be there to help people and not be a "victim". I wanted to help those in need and not be one to act and feel helpless as we were told to do. As the day went on i played the part of a mother who had 8 month old twins that were non responsive, a drunk that demanded a drink ( i was arrested and thrown to a curb 3 times, that was hilarious), and i was a 47 y/o female who was having chest pain. The hardest role i had was to take one of my fellow nursing student and pretend she was my 7 y/o daughter with cerebral palsy, was sick with signs of the swine flu ( now known as H1N1) only to be told my daughter did not qualify for care, the life that my daughter had was not in the category to qualify for hospital care.. My job was then to get all the media attention and tell them they were sending my daughter home to die.. at one point i had 4 TV cameras on me while i was yelling at an MD telling him how stupid he was and how my daughters death was on his hands.. There was only a small clip of our seemingly forever long conversation, but i will take my 5 seconds of fame. This gave my a new perspective to what my job as an RN means. I appreciate the opportunities i have to help improve the preparedness the community works on for a pandemic. After all was said and done, i was glad to know that i do feel safe if something major is to happen. There are so many factors the public are not aware of that we as medical personal have to take into consideration. I am not sure i agree with all the goes on, but i promise to take care of everyone in my power and to help them feel as though they are my family. Here is a little tidbit from the news.. ENJOY!!
